Bethel McGrew on Writing, Online Communities, and Being Authentic

Summary

When you’re looking for favorite writers online it can often be difficult to find ones that are really worth following. There are many voices that are simplistic, boring, or too reactionary in their thinking. One of my favorite writers to follow the past few years has been Bethel McGrew, who previously wrote under the pen name Esther O’Reilly. I’m excited to have her on today’s episode to talk about her story as a writer, her writing process, and other topics related to current events and culture.   Dr. Bethel McGrew is a math Ph.D., high school teacher, and widely published freelance writer. Her articles have appeared in many Christian and mainstream outlets, including First Things, The Spectator, National Review, Plough, and more. She has also contributed to two essay anthologies on the work of Jordan Peterson. She currently maintains a Patheos blog, Young Fogey, and a newsletter, Further Up, which is one of the top 20 faith newsletters on Substack.   Send me your feedback, questions, and insights through voice messages!
