How Digital Minimalism Can Change Your Life

Many of us are struggling to find more time, energy, and focus. The problem is something that has become one of the most pervasive and seemingly irreplaceable parts of our lives--digital media. We need a Christian theology of media because of the power and ubiquitousness of it in our society.
In this episode, we look into the reasons why media poses so many problems for us. We’ll see the need for a Christian philosophy of media and get a perspective on how we can begin in building that philosophy.

Show Highlights

  • The pervasiveness and rapid expansion of media threaten two of the most important facets of human life: embodied interactions and mindful presence in everyday life.

  • Every potential benefit offered to us by a new media form is also a potential loss.

  • If we understand that the medium is the message, then we will be concerned to know that message and evaluate it with the Christian worldview.

  • The gospel is the fundamental answer that we need to break free from the hold of media on our lives.

  • The best initial practice that we can do is the “digital detox” recommended by Cal Newport.

  • When our time and attention aren’t dominated by media, then we can focus on meaningful relationships and activities.
